Q: What is epoxy and polyaspartic and what's the difference?

A: Epoxy and polyaspartic are both types of resin-based coatings, commonly used for flooring, protective coatings, and industrial applications. While they serve similar purposes, they have significant differences in terms of chemistry, performance, and application.

  • Epoxy is a two-part thermosetting resin, made by mixing a resin and a hardener. Once mixed, it cures (hardens) through a chemical reaction.

  • Polyaspartic is a type of polyurea, modified to allow for slower curing and easier application. It’s also a two-part system, but with different chemistry.

Q: How long does it take to install a concrete coated floor?

A: Depending on the size of the floor, most floors take just one day to finish! On floors larger than 650 sq. ft. or in the event of a floor needing extra repair work, we may schedule a two day installation to ensure we have enough time to properly coat the floor.

Q: Can't I just coat my own floor? What's the difference between the DIY kit at the store and your product?

A: Technically, you can coat your own floor using a DIY kit, but the products are not the same. While you may save on money at the time, it may cost you in the future. The DIY epoxy kits are usually poorer quality, while professional systems like ours use high-solids and industrial grade products. The surface preparation is also a huge factor when it comes to coating the

floor. Professional companies like ours use industrial grinders with diamond tooling, make repairs to the concrete including crack and spalling repair, and have experienced employees who know how to use these tools daily. A DIY kit may seem cheaper but is likely only a temporary fix.

Q: Does the grinding create a lot of dust?

A: Concrete grinding can create dust, but professional installers like our teams at Titan Garage use specialized dust-control equipment to keep it at a minimum. If there are items that are unable to be removed within the space, plastic is used to cover to ensure a dust free area.

Q: How bad is the smell and for how long does it last?

A: We use a product with a low VOC(volatile organic compound), so while there is a strong smell when first coating, it does dissipate quickly as it dries. Leaving doors open can help turn the air over faster.

Q: When can I start walking on my newly coated floor?

A: You can start walking & placing items back onto your floor 24 hours after top coat application, and you can start parking on it 48 hours after top coat application.

Q: What are the benefits of coating my concrete floor?

A: Aside from looking straight out of a car catalog, your concrete floor will also be protected from future damage providing a strong and durable shield with every layer, offering moisture resistance as well as chemical resistance. It's also simple to clean and maintain and our warranty ensures that it lasts the life of the home.

Q: Where will I put my items while my floor is being coated?

A: We offer services that include moving items prior to installation, storing, and returning items after the floor is coated to make an easy and stress-free floor installation experience for our customers.

Q: Will the sunlight turn my floor's color?

A: No. We use UV resistant flake and a Polyaspartic clear coat for our top coat application, an extremely durable and UV resistant top coat.

Q: How long will my floor last?

A: A Titan Garage floor will last up to 15-20 years and comes with a life of the home warranty to ensure it will not peel or bubble.

Q: How can I clean and maintain my newly coated floor?

A: While your coated floor is low maintenance, there are a few things to keep in mind when caring for them to keep them in new and quality condition:

  • AVOID USING SOAP BASED CLEANERS OR CLEANERS WITH CITRUS OR ACID INGREDIENTS

  • SPOT CLEAN BY SWEEPING OR VACUUMING TO REMOVE DIRT OR GRIT, THEN A BUCKET OF WARM WATER WITH A MOP

  • DO NOT DRAG HEAVY ITEMS OR MACHINERY

  • PLACE MATS UNDER TIRES OF CARS AND COMPLETELY UNDER GOLF CARTS

  • AVOID LEAVING CARS PARKED DIRECTLY ON SURFACE FOR LONGER THAN 2-4 WEEKS (USE MATS)

  • WIPE UP ANY CAR RELATED CHEMICALS WITH A SHOP TOWEL AS SOON AS SPILL OCCURS. ANY CHEMICAL(EVEN OIL) CAN BE POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS TO COATED FLOORS

  • IN THE CASE OF STAINS, SUCH AS RUST OR LEACHING FROM TIRES, USE A NORMAL STRENGTH CLEANER/DEGREASER SUCH AS ZEP DEGREASER, GOOF OFF, OR NAB BLACK STREAK & TIRE MARK REMOVER. APPLY FOR 1- 2 MINUTES & LIGHTLY SCRUB WITH A NON ABRASIVE BRUSH. SCRUBBING TOO HARD MAY REMOVE SHEEN
